Gritman Medical Center is joining with other Idaho hospitals to recruit area residents with medical experience to assist with our response to the pandemic.
With COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations reaching critical levels throughout the state and region, more health care professionals are needed to help assist staff in our state’s medical centers and clinics. The State of Idaho has relaxed licensing requirements for nurses, providers and pharmacists to gain fast-track licensure approval in response to a critical increase in COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. One way for hospitals like Gritman to fast-track recruitment of former health care workers is through the Idaho Medical Reserve Corps, which allows for expedited applications for recently retired health care workers, former health care workers who have let their licenses lapse and health care workers with out-of-state licenses.
If you or someone you know has previously worked in health care and is willing to support medical workers in an Idaho hospital, including Gritman, sign up to join the Idaho Medical Reserve Corps at www.volunteeridaho.com and have your licensure application expedited.
To support Gritman and our partner hospitals, we’re asking those with medical training for their expertise in staffing an increasingly strained medical system. Health care professionals eligible for temporary licensing include:
Nurses (Contact the Idaho Board of Nursing at 208-577-2476 for more information)
- Nurses with unencumbered, inactive licenses
- Current nursing students wanting to serve in an apprenticeship model
- New nursing graduates
- Multi-State license holders from any compact state
- Nurses licensed in states not in the compact, but who have graduated from an approved nursing program and have passed the NCLEX or a state exam
Physicians, P.A.s, Therapists (Contact the Idaho Board of Medicine at 208-327-7000 for more information)
- Physicians with inactive or expired licenses
- P.A.s with inactive or expired licenses
- Respiratory Therapists with expired licenses
Pharmacists (Contact the Idaho Board of Pharmacy at 208-334-2356)
- Proof of 30 hours of continuing educations credits over the last 24 months is required
To register with the Idaho Medical Reserve Corps, go to volunteeridaho.com and click the “Register Now” button. When prompted, click on the “Add Organization” button and select “PHD2 North Central Idaho Medical Reserve Corps.” After selecting the proper organization, fill out and submit the form. Members of Gritman’s medical staff are monitoring regional submissions as part of our efforts to recruit workers during this shortage.
Gritman Medical Center, including our hospital and network of regional clinics, is safe and open for care. However, we are seeing an alarming increase in the number of COVID-19 infections and hospitalizations at the state and regional level that are creating a strain on our system. Everyone’s support during this time of need is appreciated.
Please also protect yourself, your loved ones, health care workers and our community. We strongly encourage getting vaccinated, wearing a facemask, washing your hands frequently, keeping social distance, and limiting gatherings with people from outside your immediate household.
