Trained at the University of Minnesota and the University of Washington, he was introduced to medicine at a young age as the grandson of a small-town doctor in Iowa. Seeing all the good his grandfather was able to do, and the connections he made, is what eventually led Dr. Bullard to follow in his grandfather’s footsteps.

“My favorite part is when we’re not talking about medicine when I get to learn about their lives,” he said. “The biggest draw is to learn about so many different ways that someone has lived. Everybody’s life is different.”

His focus is on solving complex medical issues. Dr. Bullard treats inpatient adult medicine, complex outpatient adult medicine and chronic conditions as a physician certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine. In addition, he also fills in as a hospitalist—physicians who provide medical treatment to patients who have been admitted for hospital care.

“I like the complexity and the width of care with internal medicine,” he said. “You’re constantly learning how to do new things.”

His arrival at Gritman Internal Medicine will allow Dr. Bullard to treat both the illness and get to know the patients, developing relationships that lead to better patient care through regular screenings. Dr. Bullard encourages his patients to visit their primary care provider regularly, just as they take their car in for regular maintenance to prevent breakdowns on the highway.

“Preventative care, spending a few hours a year, can save you days and dollars for a long long time,” he said.

“We’re really looking to set down roots and be major parts of the community—not just in the hospital but outside of it,” he said.
