Introducing our new hospitalist team

Committed to providing compassionate and coordinated care

We have been hard at work during the past year to recruit and bring aboard a full-time team of highly-trained and experienced hospitalists dedicated to providing our patients with exceptional care during their stay at Gritman Medical Center.

Hospitalists are physicians specializing in the care of patients admitted to the hospital. Most are board-certified internal medicine physicians who have undergone extensive training, including medical school, residency and board certification examination.

“Ever since I became a physician my goal has been for patients to feel like they are being treated as one of my family.”
– Dr. Ellenmarie Brown
All of our hospitalists have expertise in caring for both routine and complicated hospitalized patients. At least one member is on-site and available 24 hours a day to work closely with your primary care provider and specialists to provide the highest standards of care while you are admitted and after you return home.

Our team is led by Hospitalist Director Dr. Ellenmarie Brown, who joined Gritman in January. Dr. Brown, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine and most recently served as a hospitalist at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Fairfax, Virginia.

“As director, I am focused on how we can improve each patient’s experience,” Dr. Brown said. “Nobody wants to be admitted to the hospital and away from the comfort of their home. Our understanding hospitalist team specializes in treating patients and coordinating their care efficiently, so patients can get the care they need and return home.

“Ever since I became a physician my goal has been for patients to feel like they are being treated as one of my family,” she added. “As soon as they walk through the door and know they are being admitted, they can know I will advocate that they get the best care.”

Our team is rounded out by Dr. Christopher Standley, DO; Dr. Julie Lyon, MD; and Dr. Harnek Singh, MD.

Dr. Standley, who joined Gritman in April after serving as a hospitalist in Missouri, said, unlike traditional primary care providers, hospitalists only treat patients in the hospital setting.

“Our sole focus is treating patients here at Gritman Medical Center,” he said. “A member of our team is present and available all the time for our patients, ensuring we can provide exceptional and timely care.”

Our hospitalists, however, will keep your primary care provider informed about your treatment and progress. They also consult and coordinate with other specialists and departments throughout Gritman to make sure you are on the path to recovery.

“We are all working together to ensure our patients receive the best care,” Dr. Standley said.

“I’ve seen first-hand how everyone at the hospital truly cares about delivering the best possible care for their patients,” Dr. Brown added. “Every day I see people going out of their way to make patients feel like Gritman is their home away from home.”
