Dr. Meghan Kusko is joining Gritman Medical Center’s Moscow Family Medicine downtown clinic after having recently concluded a Rural Medicine with Obstetrics Fellowship at Tacoma Family Medicine, where she also completed her residency in family medicine.
Dr. Kusko, certified by the American Board of Family Medicine, is excited about starting her practice and helping families through childbirth and on.
“I really enjoy that family-centered approach of having mom and baby, or dad and child in the room together and having a collaborative visit,” she said.
Dr. Kusko is one of five physicians being added at Moscow Family Medicine. MFM is also welcoming Dr. Jacques M. Bouchard at the downtown clinic, Dr. Jessica Bonnett at the Westside clinic, Dr. Jacob Christensen at University of Idaho Student Health and Dr. Thomas Sprinkle at QuickCARE. New medical leadership has also been added: Practice Administrator Larinda Valdon and Director of Nursing Carolyn Allen.
Dr. Kusko said she not as traditional as many doctors, and she prefers an integrative approach to care.
“I am not somebody that just throws a lot of medication at people,” she said. “It is important to empower a patient to take control of their health as opposed to just having a physician say this is what you should do. It motivates them because they are completely involved in their health plan.”
She is excited about life in Moscow and becoming a member of the community.
“It is kind of daunting going into a doctor’s office, but if you know somebody outside of that clinic then it is not so nerve racking,” she says. “You are going in to see someone you trust who is almost a friend as opposed to somebody who is going to tell you what to do.”
Dr. Kusko and her husband, Michael, have one “fur baby,” Rosy, a golden retriever, border collie mix. Dr. Kusko was a competitive swimmer in high school and college, and in her free time she enjoys hiking, kayaking, cooking, knitting and yoga.
She completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University and medical school at Georgetown University School of Medicine.
Dr. Kusko is now accepting new patients. For more information or to schedule an appointment, call 208-882-2011.
