New drive-through testing site to open Monday

Gritman Medical Center’s new drive-through testing site – located directly across US-95/ID-8 (Jackson Street) from the hospital’s main campus – will open Monday, Dec. 7. Gritman’s current drive-through testing site at the Martin Wellness Center, which has been in operation since early July, will permanently close Friday, Dec. 4.

The new site will offer consolidated test collection for COVID-19, influenza (flu) A and B, and strep throat. The location will be open seven days a week, from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on weekends.

“We are excited and ready to welcome the public to our new testing site,” said Shelly Nichols, director of Gritman’s medical-surgical and critical care units. “It is designed to be more convenient, safe and easily accessible for patients and the dedicated team we have working at the site.”

A physician’s order is required for testing. Orders can be obtained through a telehealth appointment and without an in-person office visit. To obtain a physician’s order, contact your primary care provider, Moscow Family Medicine at 208-882-2011 or one of our clinics in Kendrick (208-289-3841), Potlatch (208-875-2380) or Troy (208-835-5550).

When you arrive at the drive-through testing site, enter the site from Jackson Street (US-95/ID-8), stay in your vehicle and follow the signs for directions. Bring valid photo identification and your insurance information. Staff will be available to provide directions and answer any questions you may have.

You do not have to be insured to be tested. Between most private insurance plans, Medicare, Medicaid and a special program through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, any physician-ordered, medically-necessary COVID-19 test will likely be covered with no out-of-pocket expense. The Gritman patient financial services team can help with payment questions if needed.

Symptoms for COVID-19, influenza and strep throat are similar, so most people will be tested for all three illnesses, however, your provider will order tests based on your specific needs and condition. Consolidating testing at a single location helps staff to increase efficiency and preserve much-needed personal protection equipment for other critical areas of patient care.

The new location will also provide for easier and safer access to Gritman’s laboratory and present fewer challenges related to winter weather. During snowstorms, Jackson Street is a high-priority roadway for snowplows and Gritman’s own snow removal equipment is staged across the street at the hospital.

Once a test sample is collected, allow at last three days to receive your results. Due to the high volume of phone calls regarding COVID-19, patients are strongly encouraged to login into their portal account at gritman.org/my-health-records to access their results. Results will also be sent to your provider’s patient portal. If it has been at least three days since your test was collected and you still do not see results in your patient portal account, you can call the office of the provider who issued the order for your test.
